i committed to “finish” at least one song this week, and i have (i think) finalized 2 so far today. ccf retreat song, which i think will be called “beautiful” is finished, along with coldplayish song, which right now is called “not the end”.

I thought the bridge of ‘not the end’ was pretty strong but i never really liked the whole song….so i tweaked it today to a point where i think it is better. i’ll have to run it by bethany later and get her opinion on it too. also there were two parts at the beginning that were bugging me. one of them was this one part where i think i just tried too hard to use a word that was “different” and it ended up just being completely stupid. so i quit trying to shove some fantastical “different” word in there and it got a lot better.

‘beautiful’ was basically done but just never finalized and there were some problem words that got changed. plus now i have a more clearly defined way of how to end it.

the weird thing with some of these songs is that some of them come with other parts — other instruments and things that i hear in my head. ‘beautiful’, for example, has an almost exact idea that came with it as far as instrumentation, which is weird…similarly with ‘back of the jeep’ i could hear the basic feel of the other instruments. but ‘not the end’…..i got nothin. i might hear a shaker, but i cannot think of a single other instrument to add to it. not that i’ve tried very hard, but it’s weird how some songs just come with this other part built in and others don’t.

anyway, it’s probably the strongest acoustic one of what i’ve written, and so it will very likely be one of the first ones i play anywhere. there’s a concert at my church in douglasville in a couple weeks and the pastor wrangled them into letting us open for them….so right now that song is the lead candidate to be the one song of mine that is played i think.

scary moment….playing one for the first time publicly………. *shudder*
