well the song went over fairly well last night i think. this time around i decided to actually get some feedback from people instead of just hiding the fact that the song has anything to do with me. somehow that seemed to be more productive.

(on a side note i think my ability to hear negative or constructive comments about songs without feeling mentally destroyed has gotten better which is a very, very good thing).

most feedback was pretty general with people just saying they liked it. on the good side, most agreed that the words were great, which is the more important half where i’m coming from. the one negative i heard was that the song kept building musically and never had that big “release” moment in the chorus….so perhaps i can do a bit of tweaking there and make it better.

i’ve noticed that several songs i’ve written or am working on (this one included) is more a thematic type of thing instead of an outright worship song. since i decided to let my writing be whatever it will be and not put it in one box or another, i am just observing this and i think it is interesting. my heart in wanting to write is coming from a), loving worship music and wanting to write some and b) wanting to give people something they can identify with or something that would help them in some way. so a lot of it right now is focused on giving hope and crying out when hope is gone. as it happens, this results in a lot of songs that aren’t your typical praise choruses. although some still are….

it’s a crazy animal, this songwriting thing.
