well it’s not all sunshine and daisies, i’ll tell you that much.
i added some vocal tracks today. they sounded okay through the headphones but they don’t sound very good through the speakers. i used a regular old microphone because my fancy one has no windscreen (to catch all the p’s and s’s that make noise). that may have been a mistake, because its evident pretty fast that the vocals don’t sound as clean as everything else. so…i guess i’m going to get a windscreen. they’re probably not very expensive. at least they better not be.
i also had mixing issues…not that i really thought i was going to get a good mix out of garage band anyway, but it definitely made me aware of one of its biggest shortcomings. it’s just simpler in there since it has all the effects and whatnot and is an easy interface…maybe i’ll still just use it to get an idea of the instrumentation and then dump it to pro tools to mix it. maybe as soon as i get the core instruments i can go to pro tools anyway. i’m thinking out loud, aren’t i? this doesn’t make any sense to you, does it? whoops.
initially it was very depressing to hear it on the speakers….but it’s just live and learn, i guess!
