so yeah, i’m on the move again.
a little while back i had started the drums for ‘great’ and got them mostly finished. so yesterday i took all that into pro tools and started building that one out instrumentally. i have this great synthy-thing that i put in it that i really like. now the whole thing is basically done except for bass (which i have to get from church again) and vocals, and maybe another lead track.
i also built the base garage band file for ‘beautiful’ but forgot i really don’t want any drums or synth in it, so it was kind of dumb to do that to begin with. so i went to pro tools and tracked the acoustic today and took my first few takes of the infamous ebow part. it seems to have come out pretty well; i combined it with my delay pedal and got pretty freaking close to the sound in my head, which is pretty amazing i feel like; i mean how often can you really match what’s in your head? so i took a few takes and tweaked them a little and i think i’m happy with them for now. it could easily be something i listen to tomorrow or whenever and go “how did i think that sounded good” but we’ll see.
after those two i think its ready for vocals; i’m not sure about adding any more instruments to that one. i’ve toyed with the idea of adding some organ to it but that might be too much. might do light bass but not much else.
then to top it off i started building the drums for ‘nothing else’, which is the next one i’ll tackle. i ended up making a really good reverby rim-shot sound for the snare which i’m terribly excited about. is that weird? that those are the things i get excited about? cool sound effects?
as far as vocals go i think i’ve decided to try and do several at once and have sort of a vocal recording day. that might be a huge mistake. but this is live and learn, people. i’m no kinda expert.
