bass. no, not the fish.

i added bass to the following songs: we live, great, nothing else. all came out fine after a few takes. bass really isn’t that hard to play basically if you can play the guitar. playing interesting and/or innovative bass is of course hard. but most of the time i’d rather have a simple bass player than an overplayer if you know what i’m sayin. which is good cause i’m only a simple one.

‘we live’ sounds fantastic with the bass in it…as suspected it really fills out the feel of it. there may be a few spot parts i need to redo in it, but its basically there. since i did that one first and it is so fast everything else sounded so slow afterward. ‘great’ is in need of overhaul on the electric parts…but now i’ve got something in mind that should work much better.

oh….and i listened to the ebow part on ‘beautiful’ again and i was right with my prediction: upon second listening, it sounds like absolute crap and isn’t even close to what was in my head. that could end up being really tricky to pull off.

so what’s next? i think i’ve decided vocal day needs to come sooner rather than later. it’s a mixture of just wanting some of these to be close to finished and the fact that i think it might be easier to see what goes with the song lead/fill wise more easily if vocals are done first. since the vocals basically are what they are and the leads are something i have to come up with, it makes sense to have the vocals in there first, cause you don’t want leads that clash with what the singers are singing. make sense?

i’ve been figuring out as i go what the best order is for me to record in, and it’s been tweaked a bunch already. but this is how it will look after today:

- drums
- synth
- bass or rhythm guitar
- vocals
- lead parts

i think that makes the most sense.
