lyric work

i’m reworking some bits of lyrics here and there.

‘give glory’ was finally reworked to match its new title, and it seems a better song now in terms of 1) my own liking of the song and 2) less use of conventional phrases. the idea remains but the whole “glory to your name” lyric has been used a lot before and i wanted to steer off of it.

‘questions’ struggled with the opening line since i wrote it. in reality it was probably fine but i wasn’t able to convey what i wanted in the right way. but now it has come together and i think it paints the picture i want.

‘we live’ is what’s needing the most work. i realize a lot of it is in the way i sing it that i need to work on, but some lyrics need work too. i swapped one single word out of one part, almost by accident, and ended up with what might be one of my favorite lyrical images thus far. (i’ll leave you to wonder if you will what lyric that might have been. this will be a fun game that i’m sure not many will play). now i’m really just looking at the bridge; rewriting it entirely is probably what it will come down to. it is too repetitive at the moment and i think needs to be one that knocks you over lyrically, or at least gives you a rich image. i don’t have any great ideas for it yet, but that’s what i’m spending time on at the moment.

other than that, i got the legal pad back out today to jot down a few lines and phrases that i like, so i don’t forget for future writings. i think since i’ve been out of writing mode for awhile that i haven’t been diligent about capturing bits of ideas, and i need to do that. so the yellow pad is now back out and accessible. look out.
