feedback complete! as complete as it’s gonna get, anyway.

long time no see, eh?

well the feedback phase took longer than expected. apparently everyone is rather busy and it was tough to find time to listen to the songs. but i got a good number of responses which helped me to narrow things down.

it was fairly easy to pick the 3 songs to use for the demo; king forever was probably never a question, and was equally well received among the feedback folks. i would have originally put nothing else on the list and then maybe bring it back. turns out bring it back really doesn’t really ring with everyone and might not even make the final album at this point. nothing else is a shoo-in for the album still, but i got higher responses to some of the other songs. questions turned out to be a pretty overwhelming favorite from just about everyone, so that’s gonna make the demo for sure. and then to round it out i’m leaning toward not the end, which i like a lot and also got a pretty warm reception all the way around.

strong dislikes – are you here, which i never loved, is still an easy one to cut, since only a few people seemed to like it (although i love you people that did :) i would have probably put make me whole on the album easily because i like the guitar part and the groove of it, but that one was easily the least favorite; almost everyone came back saying “yeah that didn’t really do anything for me”. honestly the more i kept getting that same response the funnier it became to me. so that one was an easy cut too.

it was also pretty easy to pick about the first 9 that are probably going to make the final, but now i’m running into some tough decisions for those last few spots. certainly someone is going to be disappointed that a song they really like got left off by the end, but hey – that’s the way she goes! we’re looking at 11 songs plus a bonus (bethany’s song) at the moment.

so anyway now i’m trying to schedule recording the demo itself with my buddy to see when he has some open time. he has a basement studio and the stuff he turns out is great sounding and should be perfect for a demo. the guys who play with me in douglasville are going to help me out with percussion and bass where needed, and then i plan to fill in the rest. when that gets scheduled and we start recording i’ll be documenting that experience as well.
