wishful thinking? but it’s a small world.

i always suspected sending a demo randomly to a big producer like ed cash might contain within it some element of wishful thinking. (read: a whole lot of it). but after talking to some folks it seems increasingly likely that this guy is probably flooded with demo submissions that probably just sit in a big pile and may never get listened to — strictly as a practical matter. i relegated myself to give him probably up until this week to respond and then i was planning to move on with finding a local studio of some kind to finish the album.

but then, as chance would have it, our good friend dave was over last week eating dinner and catching up and he asked about album progress. this is a condensed version of the conversation:

dave: so how’s the album coming?
ryan: good, man – i finished the demo and sent it to this one producer guy, so i’m just playing the waiting game to see if he responds.
dave: which producer are you sending it to?
ryan: ed cash.
dave: ed cash?!
ryan: so you’ve heard of him, eh? he’s kind of a big deal.
dave: i know him!
ryan:…..huh?!

apparently dave’s youth minister from way back is good buddies with ed (or at least he was…we’re banking that he still is) and dave himself met him on a number of occasions. so dave has offered to email his friend and see if he minds asking ed to listen to my demo.

so the shot in the dark has been lit by a small light….maybe this will be just the thing to get him to dig the disc out of the pile and give it a listen, who knows? so the waiting continues for now.
